A spectacular example of an extremely rare and limited run from the Memphis Gibson Factory! We are thrilled to be able to offer this piece to our customers. This 335 is part of a small batch run in 2015 where they choose a special run of "blistered" maple to build these instruments. The figuring is spectacular and truly three-dimensional. Working with this wood is also extremely difficult. There was a hand selected group of builders specially trained to build these and the craftsmanship shows. It took years to accumulate enough wood to make these pieces.
This guitar has a very warm and throaty neck pickup. There is a a great jazz tone within here besides the traditional rock sound that she produces. We particularly enjoyed using our fingers and loved the thwack and pop there. The bridge has that growl you would expect form a 335 and really makes you want to try and play Crossroads as Clapton would have in the Cream days.
The neck is solid and chunky. If you are looking for a slim profile 335, this is not the guitar for you. This really captures what a proper '59 neck would feel like and we can tell it pulls a lot more bass out of the pickups as well.
And if you had forgotten, this guitar really looks like a piece of art. The grain has a depth to it that is fantastic. Again, we are thrilled to be able to offer this to our customers and we look forward to helping this blistered girl find a new home.
